21. Blog Feedback - Blogging Healthcheck

14-15/20 marks
B-

Main Improvements:
Blog must represent us as a group.
There must be a clear theme.

          Individual Blog Post Improvements:

  • Good summary of Kyle Cooper statements
  • Great analyses – particularly enjoyed The Simpsons one.
  •  Good but not much analysis of how the sequence works - favourite film analysis
  • Nice Youtube videos but can you provide a short summary? - Target Audience
  •  Good summary. Later posts makes good use of poster graphics but could maybe say a little about the different genres. - Sub genres of teen dramas
  •  The analysis for both of these is solid, though the last few slides for Breakfast Club repeat themselves. Would be nice to see you discuss the differences between the two sub-genres.
  • Later post on titles lists titles well and has a useful summary at end.
  • Really good Camtasia analysis – good work
  • Planning is thorough and detailed, well done

18. Titles in Motion

Open motion next to garageband on the bottom. Click on template and it gives you a preview. The ones with the black background are particularly good for titles. If you want it to remain black and not become transparent don't put it over footage. If you hit play you can see how the titles will appear. Where it says "title info" you can edit it. You can just click on it and change the text.

Sometimes there are more boxes than you want text in, you go on select mode, click the text boxes and delete them. You can adjust font and colour by clicking "HUD" and thats how you start to customise. You can click on the inspector tab and it opens up all the more detailed options, there are options such as putting an outline, drop shadow rotate or a glow on your text. You want to create a text that suits the mood and genre of your film.

File, open template, text over the top templates and if you scroll down there are more in depth templates. A lot of templates have pre set animation. Try and branch out with your titles and don't use ones used last year. Edit the text in the same way as the first template.

When you finish go to file, export, name it, save it somewhere save (video drive) and export. The file is exported as a movie and can be added to footage on final cut pro. If you want to put the titles over footage, you position the titles under footage so they overlap.

17. Evaluation - Practical Remake Activity

Evaluation

How easy or difficult was it to create a the title credits?

Creating the title credits was relatively easy. When editing our footage on Final Cut Pro, we added already existing original credits from the Breakfast Club, chose a similar font and colour and placed it over the moving image.

What decisions did you make when deciding on the font, typeface and size of titles?

We wanted our credits to be similar to the original ones. Therefore, we aimed to find a similar font yet keep the colour quite bold to enable it to be easily seen over the moving image. We also wanted the size to be large so that the focus remains on the credits as well as the moving image.

How successful is your choice of font? Does it suit the tone of the film?

We think we had a good choice of font because it was bold and easy to understand. However, we used red for the text colour which was a little out of place despite it being easy to see.

How successful were you in the placement of title credits so they fit the action that we see? Are the titles 'integrated' or contrasting?

We decided to change the placement of the title credits to suit the moving image behind it. For example, we had a scene with a clock on the wall, we didn't want the credits to cover the clock completely as the scene would be unclear so we placed it more to the side. We took placement into consideration for every different scene, therefore our credits do not remain in one place on the screen. Also the original movie's credits were also in many different placements so we decided to follow up on that idea.

If you were to complete this tasks again, what would you do differently?

We would probably spend more time experimenting with different fonts and colours and decide on which one is most appropriate. We would also try and understand Final Cut Pro more and experiment with the different tools that are available to us.

24. Font Styles

We also want to use a font that is bold and "in your face" to give insight into the genre of the film as well as what the audience can expect. If the font is in a graffiti style, the audience can infer the setting/location of the film as there is where most graffiti is found. It is also easy to guess the age group the film is aimed at as graffiti is stereotypically associated with youths and teenagers.

22. Initial Ideas

These ideas are not elaborate, only a draft of what we have in mind as a group, they may change.

Film Idea:

A character you has everything- clothes, technology e.t.c.
we find out he gets these things from stealing
another character has nothing.
Notices what the other character does and contemplates whether he should steal too.

Youth Drama

Location/Mise En Scene
  • a shop
  • house
  • apartment

The props we are likely to use are jewellery, make-up, a phone, money...

Costume:
Mostly casual clothing - depending on character.

Plot:
opens with poor girl looking at pictures of rich girl on Facebook. they were childhood friends. sees a childhood photograph with both girls together, she throws it in the bin.
shocked expression when poor girl spots rich girl stealing. then the expression changes to a concerned expression.

The movie "Bling Ring" is our inspiration:

"Inspired by actual events, a group of fame-obsessed teenagers use the internet to track celebrities' whereabouts in order to rob their homes."

Our film will be similar to the "Bling Ring" film because we will also have a teenage character who is obsessed with the clothing and fashion of what fame has to offer. Although, we will not have any characters break into homes of celebrities, we will have a character rob from a shop to get these luxuries. We will also have a contrasting character who spots what is happening.

23. Institution/studio that will produce our film.

Revolver Entertainment:

Revolver is one of the UK & Eire’s leading "All Rights" distribution & production companies. It has been awarded 18 of the industry's top awards for marketing excellence. They have offices in London which would make it easy to contact them. Also, it has extensive local knowledge and are experts in youth entertainment so our ideas would be understood as they are based on local culture. They are also Leaders in the field of social media marketing and building of online communities. This would help us as we would gain recognition on social media platforms allowing us to promote our film with more ease than we would independently.

HanWay Films:

It is an independent British international sales, distribution and marketing company specialising in theatrical feature films. HanWay has established itself as leading international sales, distribution and marketing company specialising in high-profile quality films from worldwide talent. HanWay arranges financing, sales and distribution for all films from Recorded Picture Company, along with projects from third party producers. This company would help us with our finances, sales and distribution.

Stealth Films:

UK based distribution, international film and TV sales company. This company would help distribute our film internationally and not just on a local level.

Cipher Films:

"Our main focus at Cypher Films is the creation of Urban Fairy Tales. Usually we shoot our own scripts but if you have a project you need help with and would like to share with us, hit us up. That is as long as your project is registered with the W.G.A for your (and our own) protection." This company would not be as useful as they may not accept our own original idea and they have certain guidelines that may be hard to follow.

In Association with TMC Films:

Scott Olson is experienced in filming and lighting, spending 15 years doing just that. His expertise would be useful in helping us film professionally and to a high quality which would allow our film to be taken more seriously.

We would get some of these companies to produce our film because they produced "Kidulthood", which was a successful youth drama. We would look to companies that produced successful youth dramas because we too would want our film to be successful.

19. Garage Band

How To Use GarageBand/Tutorial:

GarageBand is similar to final cup pro and any work that is produced on GarageBand must be saved onto the video drive. To start creating your audio, you must click and drag sounds onto the timeline. When you press play, you will hear a clicking sound, this can be turned off by clicking the metronome at the bottom of the screen. By clicking the loop icon, you can continue the sound repeatedly and make the sound on your timeline longer. You can find the sounds you are looking for by clicking the music note icon on the top right of the screen and you can select music depending on instrument or mood. You can alter your sounds by turning the volume up or down or by fading sounds in or out;on the left of the screen there is an individual control panel for each sound, the bottom icon controls the sound.
. The green line represents volume and can make sounds less sharp. You can edit your sound by changing the tempo to faster or slower than the original. To add more sounds, you select the sound that you want and drag it under the previous sound. When you click play, both sounds will play together. You can also add Foley sounds if you need a specific sound effect for example. When adding footage, you want to delete its original audio and you do that by highlighting it on the timeline and clicking backspace. Once you are happy with your project, you will want to export it. You do this by clicking "share" at the top of the screen and then "export songs to disk" and "save".
